The Harvest Home Fair Association Inc. is, in a way, a return to the past. The Green Township Harvest Home Fair Association ceased operations in 1937 when the newly-formed Kiwanis Club of Cheviot Westwood took over operation of the Harvest Home Fair. The Green Township Harvest Home Association had run the Fair since 1859. But because of the hard economic times during the Depression and its declining membership, the original Green Township Harvest Home Association no longer put on the Fair. Since 1937, our Kiwanis Club has preserved the tradition and history in the Fair and provided great benefits to the community from the proceeds of the Fair.

With the newly formed Harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. The Officers and Board of Trustees of the Kiwanis Club, along with members of the community have once again taken leadership to preserve the history and tradition of the Harvest Home Fair. The benefit to the Kiwanis Club and to the community at large of having the Harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. are the following:

  1. Members of the community who have interest and desire to participate in the fair will no longer have to be members of the Kiwanis Club. Community members of the Harvest Home Fair Association we hope will become an integral part of the Fair operation, thus involving the community in the fair and lessening the burden on the Kiwanis Club members. When more people “own” the Fair, the more likely its continued existence.

  2. Previously donations and bequests to the Harvest Home Fair or to the Kiwanis Club of Cheviot Westwood were not deductible for federal income tax purposes because neither the Harvest Home Fair nor the Kiwanis Club was in Internal Revenue Code section 501-3(C) tax exempt organization. The Harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. has obtained tax exempt status. Therefore, contributions to the Harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. are deductible by the donor.

  3. Persons who are interested in supporting the Fair even after their lifetime can do so by making bequests in their Will or Trust to the Harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. Such bequest, because of the 501-3(C) status of the Association, are tax deductible gifts for estate tax purposes.

  4. The tax exempt status for the harvest Home Fair Association, Inc. allows the Association to obtain a gambling license from the State of Ohio and to legally operate Bingo and tear-off gambling games at the Fair. While such games do not contribute greatly to the profits of the Fair, they are a draw to bring more people to the Fair.
